New Hire Benefits Eligibility
As a newly hired employee, you have 30 days from your date of hire to elect benefits. Be sure to enroll within this timeframe to ensure you receive the coverage that’s right for you and your family. Benefits are effective the first of the month following your hire date.
Upon separation of employment, regardless of reason, your benefits will end at midnight on the date of termination.
Who Can Enroll?
- Full-time: Employees working 30+ hours per week are eligible for coverage.
- Part-time: Employees working fewer than 30 hours may enroll in medical, dental, and vision coverage at the full premium cost.
Note: Dent Wizard part-time employees are not eligible for DTFOC healthcare plans.
Coverage For Your Family
You may also be able to enroll:
- Your legal spouse
- Eligible children up to age 26
- Other qualified dependents, as allowed by plan provisions
Important: Eligibility requirements and plan limitations may apply to certain dependents and coverages. See the Dependent Verification page for more information.
Spousal Surcharge
A $100 monthly surcharge applies if you enroll a spouse who has access to medical coverage through their own employer. The surcharge does not apply if the spouse is ineligible for employer coverage.
Complete the Spousal Coverage Attestation in Workday during Open Enrollment. If not completed, the surcharge will automatically apply.
When Can I Make Changes To My Benefits?
You can generally make changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment or within 30 days of a qualifying life event.
Common Qualifying Life Events
• Marriage, divorce, legal separation, or death of a spouse
• Birth, adoption, loss of dependent eligibility, or death of a dependent
• Changes in employment status for you or your spouse
• Gain or loss of coverage under another benefit plan
Important: Benefit changes must be consistent with the qualifying life event, and supporting documentation may be required.
For more information see the “Navigating Life Changes” in the top menu.
Annual Open Enrollment
An enrollment window is provided each year at the end of October so you can review and change your coverage(s) for the following year’s benefits plans, which will go into effect on January 1. You must enroll by the applicable deadline.
Documentation Requirements for New Dependents
If you are enrolling your spouse and/or eligible dependent child(ren) for the first time, you will need to provide documentation to confirm their eligibility for coverage. After you enroll, you will receive a letter from the Alight Dependent Verification team to help guide you through the process.
Acceptable Forms of Documentation Include:
- Marriage license for spouse
- Birth certificate for children
- Court-ordered guardianship papers or adoption papers
- Documentation requirements vary based on your elections and dependent eligibility status.
